As the old saying goes, “Knowledge is Power”.
So, after my last post about the new open carry law in Texas, I thought it might be good to provide some resources for folks who choose to carry, either concealed or open. These are books that list the firearms laws by state in the US.
While the Second Amendment guarantees the right to keep and bear arms, the Tenth Amendment, as well as numerous court precedents, has given the states latitude in how that right is exercised. For example, as Texas and other states have done, they may or may not allow open carry; private businesses have the right to bar firearms on their property, etc.
Without going into the legal finer points (I’m not an attorney), this creates a legal patchwork of state laws. There are efforts underway to allow full reciprocity for concealed carry licensees throughout the 50 states.
That being said, I think it would be a good idea to familiarize yourself with your state’s laws and especially if you travel across state lines.
I’ve included some resources for you that I recommend; they are available from Amazon and are not very expensive.
In the interest of full disclosure, I am an affiliate of Amazon and I do get a small commission. I hope hat will not deter you from getting a resource that can save you from a lot of stress later on.
Until next time, stay safe!
